Dynamic, Debonair, Dexterous...
Donovan Rogers is an award winning playwright and multidisciplinary performance & producing artist whose skills encompass vocal music, movement, theatre, film & TV; graduating from The University of Michigan in 2024 with a BFA in Theatre Performance and minors in Playwriting and Performing Arts Management & Entrepreneurship. As an alumni of the internationally acclaimed Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit, Donovan has performed Off-Broadway at The Public Theater in New York, in partnership with the producers of Hamilton as well as on tour with the Grammy-nominated singer, Josh Groban. Most recently, the first play within his developing "Black Fiction Cycle", Into the Light of the Dark, Black Night, earned him The Hip Hop Theatre Award in Residency at The Kennedy Center.
Influenced by his bloodline of musicians, such as Aunt Claudette Robinson, who is the First Lady of Motown Records and original member of the Grammy Hall of Fame group, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Donovan is no stranger to the impact of art. Continuing his family's artistic impact in the arts, Donovan is the Founder and Producing Director of The DR's Laboratory, where he pioneered The Process Production CompanyTM (PPC) model, fundraising over $35,000 between 2 years as an undergrad at The University of Michigan. Using the PPC model, The DR’S Laboratory builds Black equity in the arts by raising awareness through data-driven research, consulting the arts through the development of fair creative processes, and producing original works that actualize Black imagination.
